The Chesterfield Canal wears many moods in November, gentle rain bouncing off the water, sudden bursts of blue sky, and at dusk, swans gliding in the fading light. It was a joy to see so many wonderful local food and drink producers at the Derbyshire Christmas Food, Drink & Gift Fair this weekend. From Apple Paddock, where we tasted delicious artisan preserves, to learning about Dog & Spoon Derbyshire Distillery’s fascinating carbon neutral gin, and Becky’s Scone Mad with up to seventy irresistible flavours, every stall was a real treat. We met Andy Gray, local fine art, landscape photographer, at Aqueduct Cottage, located on the lovely Cromford Canal. His skill gives his images a painterly quality, making it hard to tell whether they are photographs or paintings. Truly inspiring and a beautiful celebration of Derbyshire’s landscapes. Lose yourself in the golden calm of Shining Cliff Woods this autumn, where a path of golden leaves leads the way to adventure, another Derbyshire Delight. Another Derbyshire Delight. Golden light ripples across the ornamental lake at Hardwick, where autumn reflects in every leaf. Beyond the still water, Derbyshire is alive with flavours and can be found in events, markets, cosy pubs, orchard pies and fireside feasts.
